Note: Everything in this section applies equally to both the face-to-face and the self-study courses.
Key Elements of the Colour Analysis Training Course
- Colour theory - the fundamentals of both seasonal and tonal analysis
- You can choose to work with one or both
- We'll use a colour personality profiling system to help you choose
- This is so different from so many courses out there
You need to understand the theory of colour; this is fundamental to being a colour analyst. We'll look at the seasonal approach using the four seasons - Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter - and the six tones of the tonal theory - Cool, Warm, Bright, Muted, Deep and Light.
Tonal? Seasonal? Which System Will Work For You?
I don't know, because I don't know you personally. Only you can decide that because you know how you learn, how you disseminate information, what you see, what you don't see.
If you are not primarily visual (like me), perhaps the tonal approach will explain everything and become your method of choice - it will still lead you to the season, so don't worry about only having part of the equation. I wish I'd had the tonal approach 27 years ago; I'd have breezed through colour analysis, but it took me years to fully understand the seasonal method, because I couldn't 'see' it. Once I discovered that I was primarily auditory, and that I need the words to understand a concept, I could finally sort the wheat from the chaff.
Which system is down to you and how you learn. In any case, I am always available for you to check things out with me by email - but I don't run a franchise so I won't chase you. Some people email once a week for the first few months; some people send me a Christmas card and I never hear another peep out of them. We are all different, thank the heavens, and that's why we created the self-study course, so that everyone could do this their way. The other alternative is, of course, a face-to-face training course here in Chesterfield.
Starting Your Own Business
We'll also look at:
- How to run a colour consultation from start to finish
- How to build a relationship with your client and how to provide back-up services
- How to market yourself, how to get going, how to get work
- How to market once the client has been to see you
Our course is very different from many that are on the market, which sell you a box of drapes and then leave you on your own to fathom out what to do with the darned things!
We look at how to run a colour consultation from start to finish, right from the initial telephone enquiry all the way through to how to provide back-up services. The problem is that most image consultants see a client once, and then she disappears from view. That is bad business, and not good service for your client. We look at how to build a relationship with each client individually, how to provide back-up services (with colour only when you study colour - you might decide to add style later), how can we provide new individual, exciting, fun get-togethers to extend their knowledge and their wardrobes (or cut it down!) and that you continue to offer them options.
Once a lady has spent money with you, she will want to repeat that experience. She wants to tell her friends. If you don't provide any back-up, you will be letting your client down. We'll look at how to market your business, how to get going, how to get your name known, how to get first bookings, how to get that practice in. But most of all, how to market your business once the client has been to see you.
No Experience Required
- This is colour analysis from scratch
- No experience is required
- We cover everything; how to run a colour consultation from start to finish
This course is 'colour analysis from scratch'. No experience is required. You can come from any background whatsoever - you don't need to have trained in beauty therapy, hairdressing, nails, or anything remotely related to those, and you don't need retail experience.
How to Run a Colour Consultation from Start to Finish
We'll cover how:
- to handle the initial telephone enquiry
- to greet your client
- to set the room up
- you should dress to be comfortable and also inspire your client
- to treat your client
- not to bore her to death
- not to confuse her with far too much information
- give her the 3 things she needs to know - what to wear, what not to wear, and what season she is
We'll also show you how to do this without a drape in sight. You'll then be able to do this in the back of your head, anywhere in the world, and it makes for a great marketing tool.
And that's not all. Check out the full list of what's covered.
Learn From Our Mistakes
We've made lots of mistakes and learnt from them. When I started out, 27 years ago, we didn't have all the drapes, wallets, and training courses that you've got access to now. We had four drapes, one for Winter, one for Spring, one for Summer, and one for Autumn and it's hardly surprising that we made mistakes.
In the old days, we used to say, "Only Winters can wear black." This is utter rubbish, of course. 70% of all clothes sold in UK are black so now we show people HOW to wear black, even if it's not their greatest colour. Along the way, we've learnt what to say, and what not to say.
We've also learnt how to dress. We need to get away from the ubiquitous 80s image consultant - with the big shoulder pads, the lacquered hair, and the brooch. We will look at you and your personality and work out a way that you can look good, but not frighten people away at 500 paces.
Like attracts like and you will attract people to your business because of you, not what you offer. Nobody comes to you for colour and style; they're coming for confidence. Does this sound like the kind of business you want to run?
