Kim set up her first image business in 1981, after being introduced to the fascinating world of colour as an antidote to her boring office job. Offering colour and style consultations, and make-up classes, she soon had an extensive client list all clamouring for more, so she added wardrobe weed-outs, shopping trips and confidence courses. In 1990, Kim was a founding member of the Northern group of the Federation of Image Consultants (TFIC) in the UK.
In the late 90's, other image consultants started asking for Kim's help in revitalising their businesses. Most felt they weren't attracting enough clients and / or money; others needed to move their business forward or in a different direction so Kim created training seminars and coaching sessions that introduced some fresh ideas for marketing their new services. She also created specialist courses for opticians and boutique owners who were keen to add a unique colour and style service for their customers.
In 1999, Kim updated her skills in every aspect of colour, make-up, ladies' style, men's image, corporate image, and marketing. She then realised that, being a bit of a drama queen, her real talent lay in teaching so she began to run workshops and seminars for private and corporate clients.
Soon after, three consultants all contacted Kim in the same month to ask for help with their ailing businesses. As she doesn't believe in coincidence and knows when to take a rather large hint, she decided to put together a series of training courses to cater for independent consultants who wanted to run their own business, with some fresh ideas and up-to-date marketing advice.
This required the development of a brand-new business and Kielder Computers Ltd utilised the latest technology to produce a new brand, Improvability, to incorporate the new business. The current portfolio includes a host of top-ranking content-rich websites, online resources, newsletters for the public and for professional consultants, training manuals, customer surveys and an online shopping system with a catalogue of colour and style supplies at wholesale prices for the image industry.
In 2006, Improvability designed and produced a DVD-based self-study training course in colour analysis which is shipped to new and existing consultants throughout the UK and Ireland, and to Australia, Canada, USA, Switzerland, Romania, Sweden, Spain, Mexico, UAE and Brazil - to name but a few.
New courses, books and workshops are always being planned, with colour psychology, fashion feng shui and marketing for the image business all in the frame, and a brand-new resources website specifically for image consultants around the world was launched in 2008.
